“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” is typically known to be a Chinese proverb. The proverb means that a person must begin their journey in life in order to reach their goal or destination. And this proverb supposed to be related to various different situations where decisions are needed to be made in order for a person to reach the completion of a task or tasks.
Personally, I think the quote is rather fitting for the beginning of a lot of things, one of which is the beginning of this year, 2020. Today marking the start of a new year ahead we all must take that first step in embracing the day and that’s not just for today, but each day that you’re given.
Honestly, I cannot quite believe just how fast 2019 flew by, remembering from beginning to end the past year felt like it went by as one of the fastest years yet. As I think over all the memories, I have made in the course of the past 12 months, almost each and every one makes me smile. I’ve come to realize that there’s always big and small, happy and sad, even easy and hard events that take place in any given year, but it’s how we view them that makes the difference.
2019 held some of the most exciting and unforgettable events that I’ve experienced in my almost 22 years of existence; some of the major highlights were, getting engaged February 9th, helping my now husband (fiancé at the time) move into his apartment which is now known as our 1st home (which I love to pieces) and getting married to my best friend on September 7th.
As always life can get you down, there’s been days this year that my Narcolepsy has irritated more than other times and it is easy to get caught up in the moment and grumble about our situations. I am guilty for thinking that way myself, as some days I’ve wished that my body would stay awake and not be so tired all the time. It’s easy to label our circumstances we face as disabilities, that not being able to drive more than 30 minutes as handicap because I’m not physically able to drive longer distances due to being so fatigued. However, it’s far better to remember we can find meaning and strength in God.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” – James 1:2-4
Life is always going to leave you with a vast array of feelings toward everything you in counter, but it’s my hope that you will see each day, every breath that you breathe has meaning, that there’s always a purpose for your life, that it is a gift from God. Even when you are faced with tough and difficult challenges, remember that if God is for us (and He is) then no one can stand against us.
“What, then shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?” - Romans 8:31
With all that’s been said, remember that today marks the beginning of a new year, a start to new adventures, having new challenges to face, learning more about yourself, more about others and seeing what else God has in store for us — all of which makes me excited. Happy New Year everyone and here’s to making 2020 a great year!
